As many of you are aware, the prevalence rate of diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) has skyrocketed over the last several decades. More and more military families are facing the struggles of coming to terms with the troubling diagnosis, only to be met by the heartbreak and frustration of not being able to promptly access services.
This is especially true in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), where parents are often told that, while the resources exist, and services can be covered by their insurance carriers, there simply are no openings. Many children with ASDs are placed on waiting lists for months! Years of research has supported the fact that accessing early intervention services is critical for the development of these children.
With fewer than 30 registered Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) practicing within a 50 mile radius of Camp Lejeune, and even fewer enrolled as Tricare network providers, the lack of available resources is compounded.
